Pull The Weeds Or Fix The Soil?

How many times have you limited yourself because you ASSUMED something to be true?  Despite what I was being taught to assume, one day I thought, "What if they're wrong?  What if there WAS a way to be safe AND vulnerable!"

So I began searching through my relationship problems and asking myself WHY each was a problem.  As I pondered deeply on this, the layers began to reveal themselves.  Finally, I could see the unhealthy soil my problems were growing in.

Slowly, it began to dawn on me that my “problems” weren’t really “problems” at all!  They were merely the weeds growing out of poorly nourished soil.

Pulling out a weed here and there never fixed my relationship garden.  But if I spent my efforts on the ROOT causes, wouldn't I have less weeds to work on?  Once I started focusing on the soil my weeds of woe grew in, it was the difference that made the difference!

What was even more interesting was the following realization that if I could become a better gardener, then the results could be in my OWN hands.  With the results in my own hands, I could completely minimize my risk of failure.  I could be vulnerable again, and still be safe, because I would have the know-how to grow a garden of flowers instead of weeds.
